I was chatting with a friend and he mentioned how his mother converts all of her cats to Judaism, changes their names and everything. So I asked him if they keep kosher. It was just a joke, but now I'm curious. I just looked at the cat food I have in the house, dry and wet, and no little "k" to show that anything is kosher. Does anyone know if they even make such a thing?

Feeding your cats a dairy-free diet (including no dairy products in the dry food) will also do a nominal job of keeping kitty kosher, since the biggest requirement is the separation of milchen and fleischen from going in the same dishes. -

Yesterday, 4:28 PMYes, but I think kosher means more than separating the milk and meat. Doesn't the animal have to be slaughtered according to Jewish law? And I think there are also rules about the cleanliness of the facilities and such.
(Funny story on the side.... my sister's friend married a man from Israel and converted to Judaism for him. Whenever they had a fight, she would go to Burger King for a bacon cheeseburger!)

Yesterday, 6:29 PMYou are correct Heather. First, the rabbi blesses the animal to be slaughtered. Then the rabbi has to slit the animal's throat and let it bleed to death, but it cannot swallow it's own blood. The blood has to flow freely out of the body. Everything in the facility has to be extremely clean and sterile. It takes an animal a very long time to die for Kosher meat. I myself don't eat any kosher meat for that very reason. Kosher meat for a cat is about as stupid as vegetarian cat food.
