My advice would be to call or get him to the vet immediately. Is this cooked chicken we are talking about?

I would agree on at least calling the vet.

I just spent about 15 minutes scouring google and ask to see if I could find advise and closest I found was about a dog that swallowed a chicken bone and it was advised to call the vet.

Regarding the safety of chicken bones, different sites contradicted each other. Most said not to give cats chicken bones; a few said to only give bones that weren't cooked.

Best of luck with taking care of this. Cheers, Garth

well I just went to the vet and she said it is very rare for a cooked chicken bone to get stuck but it can happen...she said it may move by itself or I may have to take him in...he is sleeping right now...doesnt appear to be too bad...she also did he could havce pierced the throat wall but it certainly sounds like something is stuck...but for now...I shall wait and see if he will eat later, and his comfort level....thanks...

well I just gave him a bit meat which he ate one piece of then spewed up bile from...quite alot...every time I open his mouth to look in there it is irritating the blockage...so it cant be far down...think hes off to the doctor god dammit...expensive cat he is...should get pet insurance the way he gets into trouble lol...

cooked bones are a no-no. Raw should be fine (plus it's a great source of calcium). They don't splinter as readily. We feed our dog and cats raw bones regularly. However, necke are the best because they are less prone to splintering.

Ahhhh...Actually two of my kitties are not well.

One started spraying in the house...yuck...took him to the vet who couldn't get a urine sample..(she said there"wasn't any") but she gave me some antibiotics anyway ...and some "kitty antidepressants"...gave him the course of antibiotics...didn't do the other meds...he stopped spraying, but he is sleeping alot and not eating well. I made some chicken for him this weekend and he ate it,,,, but I think I want to take him back and get some blood work. He threw up, too, so I don't know what's up with that...he's drinking, peeing and pooping, but he's licking his lips alot. I tried to look in his mouth but I didn't see anything...i thought maybe a tooth problem or something. he's not too old about 5...

The other one was feeling warm and off his feed, too. I took him in and he had a fever and was dehydrated. The vet gave him some IV fluids and some antibiotics...well this weekend a big abcess on his rump near his tail opened up and started draining!! He's kind of hairy and neither of us saw the wound..;o(

I hate $vet$ bills$ too...but what are you going to do? I also lost my really great vet awhile back so I'm still not 100% about where to take them...

I hate it when they're sick....

echinacea works really well with abcess's and using salt water and keeping it clean...I havent taken Critter to the vet in ages for an abcess...and hes had about 7 since then...well the vet rang...the tube went down his throat and so she said he may have punctured his throat which to them feels like something still in there hence the reflux...so now hes on anti acid stuff for his tum lining and and some other crap...ah well...god knows what its gonna cost...

Yeah...since he just had the antibiotics I hope I can heal the abcess at home...it's pretty big. I cleaned it up well with peroxide and antibiotic ointment...it looks pretty good. He's eating like a horse..no fever at all...

Salt is SO under-rated these days as a healing agent...

The other cat worries me more. I hope it's not his kidneys or fip or something...

I hope you kitty's ok...Throat sounds bad but somehow not as bad as stomach....hmmm I'll have to google it and see what comes up.
They probably have something to look down into his throat with?

he's back home after a shakey journey in the car....stil coming out of sedation and happy to be here...so he has to take anit vomiting tabs and then ones to line his tum...and this is bcos of the assumption that he pierced his throat...which feels like something is in there and hence the trying to cough it out...so we shall see and only $80 later....oh well there goes some of my birthday money....never mind he earns every bit of it with his loyalty and constant affection...

How do you use the echinacea for abcesses?

When my daughter was little I avoided using antibiotics with her as much as possible...sometimes it seemed like some pediatritions thought it was the "cure-all" for everything.

Now I feel like the same thing is happening with the cats! Almost everytime they go to the vet it's antibiotics!!

well its going to be another night at the vets as he still wasnt keeping food down today but xrays def show nothing stuck...but the vet said he could have scarred it badly and also maybe have swelling with that blockijg off his food going all the way down...Tomorrow she wil use a dye to see if there are any blockages etc and if that doesnt work and hes still not keeping food down,he will have to go to the university where they can use a camera...which costs $500...these last 2 days have already cost $340 which I dont have...but how can u put a price on your beloved?
I keep in mind that people I know have spent $1000-$1200 for surgeries resulting from cars...and those cats have lived well....

                                                Shekinah,

I spent about $1500 bucks to save a kitty that I had just BARELY ADOPTED and she still eventually succumbed. But you know what??? I'd do it again in a heartbeat. And again, and again. My babies are so kind, and loyal, and true. They are worth every effing penny. I will never regret the money I spent to try and save her, because when I look at her burial box on my living room shelves, with her name "Ember" painstakingly carved on it, I know in my heart, that I did everything I could. I sleep well. I love her still. And I wouldn't take the 1500 bucks back now even if I could.

Our animals, for those of use who are sensitive enough to love them, are as close to us as children.

                                                Hugs,

                                                Seraphine

My mom used to say "If money can fix it, it's not a problem", which really annoyed me in my younger years. But it makes sense to me now. Money comes and goes, but our pets are priceless. Yikes; I'm sounding like a mastercard commercial! It does suck having all this be so expensive and especially out of the blue. That is one very blessed cat to have you.

Oh good you didn't need the cam...;o)
I'm so glad that he's better.

Both my boys are better, too....although I thought of you yesterday as my dog was kind of coughing/choking a little. Today he's all better, tho.
