I have two snuggly cats who always like to be close to me. I have a third, that I already talked about, who won't come near me. But anyway, the two snuggle-bugs like to be on top of me if possible. Well, I've noticed an interesting phenomenon. One cat might be on my left and the other on the right, or in bed, I'll have one at my neck and the other at my feet. The next thing I know, they've switched places. Am I crazy or are they just trying to make me think so? I first noticed it in bed. I would go to sleep with one here and the other there, only to wake up and find them in the opposite positions. But now, it seems they do it all the time. Just a few minutes ago, I was on the sofa with Dito on my right and Casey on the left. By the time I came to my computer, I looked and they reversed. WTF? I swear, they just do it to make me wonder.

Re: musical cats
Sat, May 17, 2008 - 6:41 PMhee, i do think they have a twisted sense of humor. or it may just be that they are juggling for position. you know what i mean? when i am in a chair, that becomes THE most desirable chair and my cat must have it. so maybe if one is on theleft, the one on the right thinks the left spot is most desirable and vice versa, so they each take over the other's position. is that cat logic or what? :) -

Re: musical cats
Sun, May 18, 2008 - 8:01 AMOr maybe they're just messing with our minds. I'm starting to think that's the case. They have a need to flaunt their superior intellect or something. Then again, maybe it goes back to my previous rant about how they claim terrirtory,. Just last night, I was sitting on the sofa and Dito was in his cat bed nearby. I went upstairs to the bathroom and returned to find him in the exact spot I had been sitting in.

Re: musical cats
Sun, May 18, 2008 - 2:53 PMHeather, that spot you left could be warm or have fresh smell (that did not come out right, you know what I mean).
When the cats change places, does one always start it or do they take turns? If you know? -

Re: musical cats
Sun, May 18, 2008 - 3:37 PMI really don't know. Most of the time, I don't even notice the movement. I just look and suddenly there is a black cat where the orange was had been, or vice versa, or both.
It's just one of those magical things. Like, if you can't find the remote control, look under the cat. Mine like to sit on top of it. I think because they know my hand will eventually reach for it, and if it finds fur, it starts petting, without any conscious control. It just happens.

Re: musical cats
Thu, May 22, 2008 - 7:54 PMmy cat will do musical chairs with me.
it's very subtle.
i'll be out on the porch, sitting in my chair.
he'll sit on the deck at my feet, and just look at me, somewhat longingly, somewhat annoyed.
then i realize it.
he wants MY chair.
I move to another chair, he takes mine.
i think it's a combination scent/energy thing....he wants MY space. -

Re: musical cats
Fri, May 23, 2008 - 1:07 PMIt never ends, does it? A little while ago, I went to the sofa to watch tv. Dito was already in my usual place, so I sat down on the other side. The show just ended and I came to the computer to check e-mail and now, he's curled up where I had been just a few minutes ago!
If only we could read their minds, or if they could speak! I want to think he's just trying to mess with my mind, but it probably is more about heat or smell, or maybe even territoriality. I don't know why, but it really bugs me that I don't know the reason.
