weird question - cat poop

topic posted Sat, February 2, 2008 - 7:54 PM by  offlineHeather
Does anyone know how often a cat normally poops? I just came home from work tonight and the litterbox is filled. I swear, it looks like 5-6 separate sessions in there. I have three cats. Yeah, I know, I'm supposed to have a separate box for each. But I don't have much room inside and they never seemed to mind. In the warmer months, I keep the door open to my enclosed porch with 2 extra boxes out there. But, it's too cold in winter, so I just have the one box that I scoop at least twice a day, usually more. It just seems strange that some days, there is nothing and then suddenly, there is quite a large amount.

So what's the average frequency of bowel movement per feline? Buehler? Buehler? Anybody?

Well I have two cats and usually find enough poop in the litterbox to account for 2-3 poops apiece. I didn't know each cat was supposed to have their own box. I only have one.

I have three babies and two large boxes. The little freaks pee in one and poo in the other. If I am home, the youngest princess will yowl at me to remove everyone else's business before she goes in to do hers. Other than that, I scoop twice a day and get what I am guessing (hoping) to be two movements per kitty and three or four pees a day per cat.

Yeah, my oldest is a bit fussy like that. Given the chance, he'll pee on the bath mat before using the litter box if it's too dirty - and I totally change the litter at least 2-3 times per week and scoop several times daily. I eventually learned not to let the mat stay on the floor. I just fold it up after my shower and hang it over the tub. He also has a habit of sitting at the porch door and whining until I open it if he wants to use the boxes there. Ugh, cats. Gotta love 'em, but they can be a tad ornery.

But that is funny that your guys use one for pee and the other for poo.

Someone else sent me a PM that it depends on the food. The crappy food with lots of undigestable stuff makes them poop more often, while the better quality food means fewer BMs. Much like what I just learned in maternity nursing. A human baby will poop more often with formula than with breast milk because the breast milk doesn't have any extra crap.

Yeah, I shell out $1-1.50 per 5 oz. can for stuff like Felidae, Wellness, Eagle Pack, Inova, and some other brands, and I get 1 poop per cat per day. And I have heard that some cats like to pee in one place and poop in another before. That's one of the reasons why they say it optimal to have litterboxes = number of cats + one.

I have two cats and four litterboxes. They poooo so much, it doesn't matter when I scoop. I'll scoop one box then move to the next and the first box I scoop there's more pooo in there.

I know they do it to piss me off. even when I change the litter, they can't wait until I put the lid on before they are in there scratching around and talking to me. Boys are weird. Eat, Sleep and Shit ahahhahah ;)

I just think mine have a weird pattern. Like they wait a day or two and then go a bunch of times as soon as I leave for work or school, so I come home exhausted and have to scrape out the box, ugh.

And isn't it funny how they just love when you change it. I swear, as soon as they hear me dumping to old stuff, they all come running, then there's a fuss until the big guy insists that he's going first and the other two just kind of stand there in line waiting.

It's probably a good thing that they bring us so much joy or we probably wouldn't be so happy to talk about their poop habits!
